DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.(June 5, 2001) - Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., has moved into the top position in the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the Northeast Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Howard who competes in the Modified division at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa., has collected three wins and four to-five finishes in five starts this season. (Howard pilots the Glenn Hyneman-owned, Big Spring Car Wash 126 which is a Troyer car with a Larry Lombardo engine on Friday nights at the 3/8-mile, banked, clay oval.) Vern Bliss of Arcade, NY, slipped to second in the region. Bliss, who competes in the ProStock division at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway finished second to Sammy Fullone of North Collins, N.Y., in the 30-lap feature on the high-banked 0.375-mile oval this past Saturday. Bliss has scored three wins and five top-five finishes in five starts. Barry Autex of Jennerstown, Pa., moved to third in the regional standings withhis second win of the season this past Saturday at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway. Awtey, who competes in the Late Model division at the .500 mile speedway, has accumulated seven top-five finishes in seven starts. T.J. Potrzebowski of Elmira, N.Y., Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y.; Todd Patnode of West Swanzey, N.H., Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.; Bob Arsenberger of Mill Run, Pa., Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, Pa.; J.R. Kent of Horseheads, N.Y., Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome; Phil Rozum of Cleveland, Ohio, Lorain County Speedway in Amherst, Ohio, and Joe Hartmann of Calverton, NY, Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region. The regional champions will be decided following the conclusion of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series season on September 16. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national championship will then be determined by a ranking of the regional champions using the Competition Performance Index (CPI).
