(Aug. 3) at Big Diamond Raceway on West Side Wood Products/Dark 'n Go Tanning Salon Night featuring the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds, Super Sportsman and the NASCAR Roadrunners. Hot laps were completed and one lap was run in the first super sportsman heat when a steady light rain left the early track too slick and visors without sufficient tear offs. The light rain continued for one-half hour until the winds kicked-up and the heavier rain arrived, forcing the card to be postponed.

Rain checks will be honored at face value for the next three events at Big Diamond Raceway with credit given or payment required for differences in the admission price. Pending review of a schedule inconsistency between the Super Sportsman Tour schedule and the Port Royal Speedway schedule for a show on August 15 or 16, a rain date will be announced. Tentatively, based on the Wednesday Port Royal date shown on the Sportsman Tour schedule, the super sportsman will return to Big Diamond Raceway on Friday, August 17. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds and the NASCAR Roadrunners would also be on the card.

Although the weather was threatening, a solid field was on hand including 37 modifieds, 34 super sportsman and 17 roadrunners. The speedway was particularly happy with the line-up of traveling super sportsman racers, which in past years has suffered with threatening weather. Thus every effort will be made to reschedule the date while still maintaining the track's commitment to their weekly racers.

In addition to the regular modified stars Gene Hornberger (3H) and Matt Gerber (33M) were looking to make their first starts of the year. Also sportsman stars Joe Biasi, Jr. (B1) and Randy Mohn (505) were signed in and ready to take on the modifieds.

The Super Sportsman entries included Jim Wentz (88), Charlie Sorokach (35), Joe Orsulak (39), Brono Cappellari (20), Denny Willey (17W), Chris Reed (14), Wild Bill Heckert (82), Bill Brown (00P), Ryan Rupp (33), Rusty Rupp (73), Joe Reneker (25), Keith Prutzman (28), Dave Berkheimer (5B), Paul Miller (58), Rodney Adams (6), Steve Cannon (23C), Bill Schoffstall (07), Mark Zimmerman (43), Bob Howard (49), Leroy Martin (66), Steve Wilbur (59), JR Fry (42), Smokey Snellbaker (32), Craig Morrow (6M), Ken Carberry (47), Pat Cannon (5T), Danny Hager (93), Howie Locke (77), Russ Mitten (77M), Rich Eichelberger (8), Frankie Herr (3), Carmen Perigo, Jr. (2A), Pat Kelly (40), and Dave Neuman (67).
