Minersville, PA - June 6 - Big Diamond Raceway kicks off the summer with seven events in 28 days starting this Friday night, June 8. The track is scheduled to run six Modified features including a 50-lap championship, seven Sportsman features, six Roadrunner features, and one 410 sprint car main event.

On Friday, June 8, the NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman will return to the racing schedule even though they did not miss a beat as their off night on June 1 was actually rained out. They will be part of a four-feature card with the NASCAR Modifieds and NASCAR Roadrunners. The Sportsman will compete in two 15-lap features while the Modifieds will have a 25-lap main event culminate their night of racing and the Roadrunners, a 15-lap main event.

Although technically the next two shows are regular, weekly, three-division shows, the excitement level generated by racing cards featuring the NASCAR Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners at Big Diamond certainly cannot be described a "regular." The June 15 will be the track's third Simpson Racing products Contingency Night of the season and Big Diamond's official race apparel supplier, Weikel Racewear, sponsors the June 22 card.

The only 2001 Big Diamond appearance of the powerful, popular 410 Super Sprints falls on Tuesday night, June 25, as part of Carquest PA Sprint Speedweek. Fred Rahmer, Don Kreitz, Jr., Greg Hodnett, Keith Kauffman, Todd Shaffer, Lance Dewease and other sprint stars are expected to be on hand. The NASCAR Sportsman will also be part of the show in an event, which will carry Big Diamond points.

Dairy Association Night falls on Friday, June 29, and undoubtedly that will once again mean free ice cream for the fans. On the track the NASCAR Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners will be in action. The show will also be a tune up for the second biggest show for the Modifieds at Big Diamond Raceway, which follows just four nights later.

On Tuesday night, July 3, the NASCAR Modifieds will compete in the annual Georgie Stevenson Memorial 50. The Sportsman will not be on this 7:30 card but the Roadrunners will be in action. The event honors the memory of Georgie Stevenson and is a fundraiser for the Georgie Stevenson Charities, dedicated to helping families defrays cost of dealing the treatment and care of children with serious diseases.

It is one of those exciting "regular" shows on Friday, July 6, featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners. But this event will carry the sponsorship of True Value Hardware and will act as the track's fourth Simpson Racing Products Contingency Night. These Simpson Nights carry cash awards for drivers finishing in the top three and using Simpson helmets and/or uniforms in all three classes.

So there you have it. One of the most exciting 28 days of racing in the history of Big Diamond Raceway.

In the Modifieds the list of stars in action includes the current NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region and Big Diamond point leader Duane Howard as well as defending track champion Keith Hoffman, past champion Jeff Strunk, Terry Meitzler, all-time Big Diamond Modified win leader Craig Von Dohren, Grandview Speedway point leader, Meme DeSantis, Jimmy Hauer, Ray Swinehart, Barry Readinger, Dennis Bailey, newcomers Jerry Higbie, Jr. and Johnny Ray, Mr. Excitement - Bobby Trapper, Glenn Strunk, Kyle Weiss and Tom Umbenhauer.
