Minersville,PA - May 25 -- Rain forced officials at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PAto cancel tonight's (Friday, May 25) NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, "TrueValue Hardware Night at the Races" featuring the NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman and NASCAR Roadrunners as well as the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds 35-lap Spring Championship.

True Value Hardware Night will be rescheduled.

This Friday, June 1, the winged supersportsman stars make their first appearance at Big Diamond Raceway since June 30, 1997 when Steve Wilbur took the victory. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds and Roadrunners will also be on the card. The NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman will not be racing this week (June 1) but will return on June 8 with two 15-lap features. Current Sportsman Tour point leaders, Frankie Herr and Carmen Perigo, Jr. will lead the winged warriors to the Minersville oval along with the likes of Danny Hager, Donnie Beaver, Howie Locke, Rich Eichelberger, Pat Cannon, J.R. Fry, Russ Mitten, Ken Carberry, Leroy Martin, Bob Hockenberry, Schuylkill County driver Billy Schoffstall and past Big Diamond stars Keith Prutzman and Kirby Sites.

Duane Howard of Oley, PA has been very successful this season at Big Diamond in the featured NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds, which will also be on the June 1 card. Howard has taken three of the five $2000 feature event wins this season in the Big Spring Car Wash #126 owned by Glenn Hyneman.

Jeff Strunk of Bethel, PA and Terry Meitzler of Kutztown, PA have single feature victories this year but they certainly would like to see more tallies in the win column. Past winning drivers like defending track champion Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, PA, Craig VonDohren of Barto, PA, Meme DeSantis of Temple, PA, Ray Swinehart of Bechtelsville, PA and Jimmy Hauer of Lebanon, PA are still looking for their first Big Diamond wins of the year. Add to that list of strong 2001 contenders the names of Barry Readinger of Fleetwood, PA, Dennis Bailey of Kutztown, PA, newcomers Jerry Higbie, Jr. of Slate Hill, NY, and Johnny Ray of Reading, PA, Mr. Excitement -Bobby Trapper of Scranton, PA, Glenn Strunk of Bechtelsville, PA, Kyle Weiss of Hamburg, PA and Tom Umbenhauer of Richland, PA and your have a number of hungry racers.
