Minersville, PA - August 9, 2002 - AMSOIL will be on hand at Big Diamond Raceway on Friday, August 16, to sponsor the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series racing card presented by Dodge. The Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners will be on the card that gets underway at 8PM and from the younger fans one girl and one boy will win bicycles courtesy of AMSOIL.

AMSOIL, the leader in synthetic automotive oil and lubricants, is very serious about their involvement in racing at Big Diamond Raceway as well as auto racing in general. In fact, they planned to sponsor an event at Big Diamond Raceway in 2001 but the weatherman wiped out their race date twice. So AMSOIL representatives elected to roll it over to 2002 and sponsor the June 14 card but once again the weatherman refused to cooperate. Hopefully persistence will payoff as AMSOIL's Norm Crawford and Bob Edmonds will travel the highways from New Jersey, they well know by now, to be part of the racing card and victory lane ceremonies for all three divisions of stock car racing this Friday night along with local AMSOIL representative, Mike Clay, Sr.

Big Diamond race director, Jeff Gromis shared this week, "AMSOIL proudly states, 'Whether you're a car owner looking for premium synthetic lubricants, a business owner looking to add a successful product line to your shelves or a fleet owner looking to cut your operating expenses, we think you'll find everything you're looking at AMSOIL.' We are proud to have them with us at Big Diamond. I just hope the weatherman helps us out this time!"

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified point race looks like it will go right down to the final point race in September as Keith Hoffman (Whitehall), Duane Howard (Oley), Meme DeSantis (Temple) and Craig Von Dohren (Barto) are in a dogfight for the title. Keith is the defending, two-time track champion and Duane Howard has five championships at Big Diamond on his list of accomplishments. But Von Dohren and DeSantis are looking for their first Big Diamond crown.

The competitiveness of two of these drivers goes even deeper as they are tied for the top spot on Big Diamond Raceway's all-time modified win list. Duane Howard and Craig Von Dohren each have 46 feature wins at Big Diamond in the modifieds.

Current Modified point standings show Keith Hoffman and the Johnny Ray / ABDO Electric Racing #1 on top with 2390 points with Duane Howard and the Glenn Hyneman / Big Spring Car wash 126 right behind with 2305. With a feature win worth 200 points, both Craig Von Dohren in the BRB Racing Mrs. T Pierogies 114 and Meme DeSantis in the Norm Hansell / Norm's Save Station 357 are well within range with 2196 and 2193 each. Fifth is Terry Meitzler (Kutztown) with 2015 followed by Steve Bottcher (Lehighton), Kyle Weiss (Hamburg), Shawn Reimert (Oley), Jack Hartnett (Telford) and Barry Readinger (Fleetwood).

The Sportsman point race is even tighter as Craig Whitmoyer (Hamburg) continues to lead with 2254 points but this week's feature winner, Billy Moyer, Jr. (Pine Grove) is right there only 28 points behind with 2226. Ed Scott (New Tripoli) is third with 2108 just ahead of Tom Brennan (Pottsville) and Luke Wagner (Grantville).

Finally, with the suspension of Doug Hendricks for refusing the $600 claim rule as in the rulebook for the roadrunners, the roadrunner title is up for grabs as Rodney Ulsh (Summit Station) has 2346 points to lead Barry Schrader (Orwigsburg) who has 2282. Dave Miller (Pine Grove) is third at 2208 followed by Steve Fessler at 2172 and Marty Shappell at 2047.

It is a regular card at Big Diamond Raceway this Friday night, August 16 at 8PM on AMSOIL Night, if any event at Big Diamond can be described as regular. The powerful NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds headline the card that also includes the Sportsman and Roadrunners. For more information check the track's website at www.bigdiamondraceway.com or call (570) 544-6434.

There is one schedule change of note THERE WILL BE NO RACING THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, at Big Diamond Raceway. The KARS 358 Sprint Cars have been rescheduled from August 18 to the track's Friday, August 30 card.
