Minersville, PA - June 23 - One week after losing a shot at a win in a last lap tangle with Keith Hoffman, Ray Swinehart of Bechtelsville, PA came back to capture his second Big Diamond Raceway NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified feature of the year over Keith Hoffman. Rookie Kyle Strickler of Gouglersville, PA, at the age of 16, captured his first career Big Diamond EXIDE ShorTrack Sportsman feature win while John Ulsh of Summit Station, PA grabbed his first career Accel Roadrunner win on J R Trucking Night. Just one week ago a 12 lap, side-by-side battle between Ray Swinehart and Keith Hoffman (Whitehall, PA) resulted on contact in turn two with Swinehart spinning and Hoffman going to the rear on the final lap, costing both a shot at their second win of the year. This week it was Swinehart getting the win with Hoffman closing up during the final laps to get second in this week's NASCAR WRS Modified 25-lap main event sponsored by J R Trucking of Orwigsburg, PA. Scott Albert of Fredericksburg, PA led the early laps but Swinehart moved from his sixth starting spot with his Dames Chevrolet/J&L 33 to the lead on lap 4, Albert battled with Bob Trapper (Scranton, PA) and Kutztown, PA racers Randy Bailey and Dennis Bailey until Shawn Reimert (Oley, PA) flexed his muscle in the Kochel Equipment 58S. Reimert battled through the traffic to get second on lap 12, well behind the cruising Swinehart The yellow flew on lap 18 putting Reimert beside the leader, but Swinehart pulled away on the restart. But the large crowd nearly saw what they came for as Keith Hoffman, who started 15, took second from Reimert on lap 20. A yellow would have set up another showdown but the final five laps went incident free and the closing Wengers of Myerstown/Bashore Trucking 5 of Hoffman settled for second. Following Swinehart and Hoffman at the finish were Reimert, Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville, PA), Terry Meitzler (Kutztown, PA), Bob Trapper (Scranton, PA), Jim Hauer (Lebanon, PA), Meme DeSantis (Blandon, PA), Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville, PA) and point leader, Duane Howard (Oley, PA). Qualifying heat winners were Kyle Weiss (Hamburg, PA), Hoffman, DeSantis and Dennis Bailey. Doug Manmiller (Wyomissing, PA) and Hauer were the consolation winners. Lance Hoch (Topton, PA) led the opening lap of the NASCAR EXIDE ShorTrack Series Sportsman 20-lap feature but Dave Dissinger (Mohrsville, PA) put his 88x into the lead on lap two after starting 9th. Dissinger, returned with two cars after taking two weeks off to regroup and rebuild his poor handling car, looked like he was in the form that earned him a track title in 1998. But Dave's 88x slowed suddenly on the backstretch on lap 11 just as young Kyle Strickler powered under Lance Hoch for second in turn two. As Dissinger pulled off the track, Strickler took command with the Henry Sharman Builders/Unruh Insurance 16 and held off the point leaders Donn Edgar (Lehighton, PA) and Gary Hager (Stewartsville, NJ) over the final 8 laps for his first win. Strickler took the win over Edgar, Hager, Hoch, Joe Biasi, Jr. (New Ringgold, PA), Ryan Bauer (Bethlehem, PA), Jimmy Reppert (Hamburg, PA), Laudan Seigfried (Orwigsburg, PA), Shawn Fitzpatrick (Pottsville, PA) and Ed Scott (New Tripoli, PA). Heat wins went to Dissinger, Tom Solderich (Bethlehem, PA), Reppert and Rick Hendricks (Auburn, PA) while Brad Force (Sellersville, PA) and the returning Randy Mohn (Fredericksburg, PA) took consolation victories. Dale Hartz (Hamburg, PA) led the opening lap of the Accel Roadrunner 15-lap main but John Ulsh took charge on lap 2 and went on to take his first career win. Glenn Rowan (Pottsville, PA) took second from Hartz on lap 5 and finished there followed by Chris Evitts (Schuylkill Haven, PA), Dean Ulsh (Auburn, PA) and Hartz at the finish. Heat winners were Hartz and Rowan. Racing returns to Big Diamond Raceway this Tuesday, June 24, as the powerful super sprint cars invade Big Diamond Raceway as part of Keystone Pretzel Pennsylvania Sprint Speed week.
