DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 21, 2002) - The championship awards banquet for the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge is returning to Nashville, Tenn. The banquet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, the traditional site of the banquet prior to the 1999 season when it was moved to Orlando, Fla. More than 1,000 invited guests from across the United States are expected to attend, making this event NASCAR’s second largest post-season awards ceremony.

“ Moving the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge banquet back to Nashville is a return to the tradition of our series,” said Chris Boals, director of NASCAR Touring and the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge.“ This is a fun place for our teams and their families to gather and celebrate their accomplishments. It’s a unique facility that’s close to home for many competitors, and it’s always enjoyable to visit during that time of the year.”

The annual banquet is where NASCAR’s grassroots racers take center stage. The black-tie event honors the national champion, the eight regional champions and other special award winners of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge. The champions will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Nashville, along with their share of the $1.7 million NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge point fund.

The Gaylord Opryland, formerly the Opryland Hotel Nashville, features 2,884 guest rooms, 600,000 square feet of convention and meeting space and more than 30 specialty shops, lounges and restaurants. The unique indoor atrium at the center of the resort includes nine acres of gardens, water fountains and scenic walkways.
