McDowell recovers from accident, earns top-10 finish at Watkins Glen
MOORESVILLE, NC. (August 9, 2010) - After the disappointment of blowing a motor at Road America, Michael McDowell and the entire MacDonald Motorsports team had been patiently awaiting the next road course race on the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. Watkins Glen was that race and the K-Love #81 team had prepared there Dodge Charger to be a car that could challenge for the win.
Unable to make a qualifying run in practice, Michael was still able to slot his #81 into 15th place on the grid. The car was just a little tight and they were unable to get the speed they wanted out of it.
During the race, the car was strong and solidly in the top-15 all day long until a multi car wreck badly damaged the K-Love Dodge. Even with the hood caved in and damage to the duct work, Michael was able to manage the overheating problems of the car to continue on in the race. Overtaking was an issue because the temperatures would raise dramatically when closing in behind another car and Michael would have to back off and let the engine cool.
Even with all of these set-backs, the team was able to make there way back to the front of the field, and place the car with a solid tenth place finish. Michael did an excellent job of managing the ailing car and Patrick called a great race. The team is eagerly looking forward to Montreal where they hope to improve even more.
"After the big wreck on lap 24, the car was banged up but was still quick enough to work our way back through the field," said McDowell. "It's awesome to get a top ten for Randy and the team and have two strong races in a row. The team is really starting to get in a rhythm and hopefully we can pick up a sponsor to help us finish out the year and keep these strong runs coming."
The next race for Michael and The K-Love #81 Dodge will be this Saturday, August 14th at Michigan International Speedway.
