Former Indianapolis 500 pole winner Alex Tagliani will have another chance at his first NASCAR national series win next month.
Tagliani will drive the No. 22 Ford for Team Penske in the August 15 Xfinity Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, the team announced Wednesday.
Tagliani, 41, competed in two Xfinity races for Penske last season, winning the pole at Road America and finishing in the top-five in both events.
He's made a total of seven NASCAR national series starts in his career (six Xfinity and one in Trucks).
"It's always unique to be part of Team Penske, even for one weekend. Looking at the owners' championship ring (from 2014), it reminds you how important and how hard everyone behind the scene is working to contribute at the success of the No. 22 car," Tagliani said.
"This year my goal is the same as last year – help Team Penske. It's a real honor to be part of all this group."
The Montreal native has an extensive racing resume, including in the IndyCar Series, sports car competition and in the Australian V8 Supercar series.
Tagliani picked up his first NASCAR victory earlier this season, winning the Leland Industries 300 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race in June at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ontario.
"He led 193 of 300 laps and finished as the only car on the lead lap on the .333-mile paved short track.
"We are looking forward to having Alex back in the No.22 Ford," said Team Penske president Tim Cindric.
"He was a big part of our championship last year as he put the team's goals in front of his own. Hopefully, we can put him in Victory Lane this time."
