Edward's Looks forward to "Home Trek"
Charlotte, N.C. (July 14, 2010) -- Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 60 Copart.com/Fastenal Ford in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, will be in his home state of Missouri this week to race at Gateway International Raceway Saturday night, and Edwards' primary NASCAR Sprint Cup Series sponsor, Aflac will be riding with him as the primary sponsor. At this point Aflac has now participated in every form of motorsports entry that Edwards has competed in during the last three years. Edwards hopes to continue his trademark back-flip in victory lane for the third time at Gateway.
"I can't wait to race at Gateway International Raceway," Edwards said. "There is no other track like it. It has a long straightaway and turn 4 is a blast. I consider it my home track and I will have a lot of friends and family there. I want to give them a great show. We've had two big wins there and no wins have been bigger."
"Those wins there are as big as any of my Cup wins. The Sprint Cup Series is off this weekend, but we will have Aflac on our car as the primary. It would mean a lot to me and the whole team to get them in victory lane. This is a big race and we are coming off a great points weekend. It's time to build off of that, have fun and win."
Currently, Edwards is riding in his 200 mile / 2-day charity bike ride. The ride, that started three years ago starts from Edwards' home town of Columbia, Mo, and will finish in St. Louis.
In six Nationwide Series starts Edwards has never started a race at Gateway outside of the top-five and has only finished outside of the top-five once in Roush Fenway Racing entries. As an organization Roush Fenway has three wins, seven top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes in 17 starts at Gateway International Raceway.
Edwards is currently second in Nationwide Series points' standings.
