RWR OFF-WEEK NOTES: WALLACE AND STREMME FAST IN CHARLOTTE TESTING
--Rusty Wallace Racing Looks to Carry Momentum into Next Weekend's Queen City Showdown--
CHARLOTTE, NC (May 13, 2008)--Fresh off of its second consecutive double top-ten performance, Rusty Wallace Racing and drivers Steve Wallace and David Stremme continued the team's momentum in Monday's Nationwide Series test session at Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte. Sharing the team's test cars, the RWR drivers clocked in with the sixth-fastest lap of the day, at 29.823 seconds (181.068 MPH). The team's second test car recorded the 11th fastest lap of the 46 cars taking part in the day's sessions.
Rusty Wallace Racing heads into next weekend's event in Charlotte as one of the hottest teams in the Nationwide Series. No. 66-Steve Wallace scored his first career top-ten finish four races ago at Mexico City and has since "flipped the switch" on his season. The 20 year-old heads into his second career start at Lowe's with three top-ten finishes in his last four starts and a streak of two consecutive top-five finishes. With that performance, he has climbed to 11th in the driver standings, his highest career ranking to date.
Wallace's teammate, No. 64-David Stremme, has been one of, if not the, most consistent driver in the series over his last seven races. During that span, Stremme has scored a remarkable six top-ten finishes and climbed into the top-ten in the driver standings, despite not competing in the Mexico City round.
Both Rusty Wallace Racing teams completed their testing plans during the first day of testing and did not return for Tuesday's sessions.
Noted Wallace, "We really learned a lot today. David and I drove both of our cars, so it enabled our teams to get more feedback on our setups. I feel like we really got our cars running well by the end of the session, so I'm excited to get back here next week and see if we can keep up the momentum we have going."
NOTES OF INTEREST:
* Steve and Rusty Wallace made a trip to Orlando, FL last Sunday for the national franchise meeting of sponsor, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches. Rusty spoke to the attendees on the topic of momentum, something with which the RWR squad has experience over the past month. Both Steve and Rusty assisted in passing out several awards, the prizes for which were racing-themed.
