Bad Luck Bites BigSpot.com Team at Richmond

Richmond, VA (September 10, 2010) - Brian Scott finished 38th in the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 on Friday evening at Richmond International Raceway. Once again, the 22-year-old Raybestos Rookie of the Year points leader was struck by bad luck early.

Although qualifying 40th, Scott was confident in the BigSpot.com Toyota's race trim. Starting deep in the field, Scott began working his way to the front immediately. In just 11 laps, the No. 11 BigSpot.com Camry picked up 10 spots.

By the time a yellow flag came out on lap 35, Scott sat in the 27th position. Looking to snug up the car in the center of the corner, crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz, called Scott to pit road for four fresh tires, fuel, wedge and air pressure adjustment.

Just as the race went back green, a wisp of smoke came from the No. 11 BigSpot.com Camry. Scott began to report a very tight racecar. He quickly diagnosed a flat right front tire and came back into the pits immediately. When the BigSpot.com crew changed four tires under green, the tire specialist found no tire down, but oil seemed to cover the right front tire, giving Scott the feeling of a flat.

The wisp of smoke began to grow and eventually Stankiewicz called Scott behind the garage. The crew diagnosed a bad o-ring in the oil cooler was causing the oil leak. The crew quickly repaired the part and returned to the track in the 40th position, 35 laps down. Scott would ride around for the remainder of the race, picking up two more spots to finish 38th.

"We need to get this gorilla off our backs," Scott said after the race. "We show speed everywhere. We are a good race team. We have good people, good cars, good sponsors. These little things keep happening to ruin our day and it's frustrating. We went through a period of time in the middle of the season like this and we turned it around. Hopefully we can take the next weekend off, regroup and turn this slump around too. I'm really looking forward to Dover."

This 38th place finish puts Scott 13th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship standings, 169 points out of 12th and 1625 points from the lead.

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series takes a week off this weekend, but heads to Dover International Speedway next weekend for the Dover 200.
