Piquet, Scott incident at Richmond escalates with RCR members arrested

An incident between Brian Scott, driver of the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, and Nelson Piquet Jr., driver of the No. 30 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet, on pit road following the Toyota Care 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond (Va.) International Speedway on Friday night led to an additional incident between members of the No. 2 team and Piquet at approximately 11:15 p.m. ET in the driver/owner motorcoach lot just outside the track.

Henrico, Va., police took two men into custody after the incident, one of them with a shoulder injury. Henrico Police are not releasing any other details regarding the matter, but both Turner Scott Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing released statements on Saturday.

"We are aware an incident took place outside of the track's infield following Friday night's NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway involving members of our team; and others from another team. We are cooperating with the local authorities in this matter," a statement from RCR, released early Saturday morning, read.

Turner Scott Motorsports responded with the following statement:

"Turner Scott Motorsports can confirm that an incident occurred near the driver/owner parking lot of Richmond International Raceway following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday, April 26th. Several members of another race team confronted a group that included Nelson Piquet Jr., resulting in the arrest of two individuals from the other race team. TSM will have no further comment on the incident as the matter is an active case with the Henrico Police Department."

Scott approached Piquet on pit road right after the race concluded and later told ESPN that he just wanted to talk to Piquet about the incident but Piquet "kicked me below the belt."

Scott was upset over an incident with 42 laps remaining in the 250-lap race that collected his car, the No. 3 Chevrolet of his teammate Austin Dillon and the No. 31 Chevy of Piquet's Turner Scott Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier. According to Scott, Piquet was responsible for the wreck. He went on to say that he's had an issue with Piquet all season.

"He runs into me every week, and I kind of had it," Scott said.

Meanwhile, Piquet expressed frustration from continued exchanges with Scott.

"I'm not going to take anymore crap from him," Piquet said.
