FORMER WINNER -- Driver Scott Wimmer knows his way to victory lane at Phoenix International Raceway: he took the checkers in the 2002 NASCAR Nationwide Series race from an 18th place starting position leading 15 laps at the 1-mile oval.
A VERY SPECIAL VISIT -- Scott Wimmer was a very special surprise guest yesterday when he made an unscheduled appearance at the Key Motorsports shop during a tour given to students from Mitchell Community College. In addition to their tour of the team shop and hauler, the 25 special needs students were treated to autographs and photos with Wimmer, as well as a raffle with prizes donated by Emerson Radios.
GO OR GO HOME -- After missing the show two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway, the No. 40 StopRepairBills.com Chevrolet fell out of the top-30 in owner points, losing a guaranteed spot in the starting grid. Wimmer's 28th place finish last weekend in Nashville bumped the No. 40 up three spots into 33rd, but the team will still be required to qualify on time this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway.
CHASSIS INFORMATION -- Key Motorsports will be utilizing chassis #008 at this weekend's race at Phoenix International Raceway. #008 has been the most frequently used chassis of the 2009 season for Key Motorsports, and heads to Phoenix after a quick turnaround from last weekend's race at Nashville Superspeedway.
ON PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY -- "I feel real good about Phoenix and I always look forward to going out there. In 2007 I finished 4th, and I won the race back in 2002, so it's been a really good racetrack for me. We need to just go out there, get our car into the race, and once we're in the race, we need to work on race trim. I think we've got some good direction, and after our two DNQ's earlier this year, I think we addressed what our problems were there and we'll be able to go out there and make the show comfortably. That track's real tricky, it changes a lot throughout the night, so I think if we can go out there and get the car comfortable and just keep adjusting on it all race long, we'll be good.
