McDOWELL RETURNS HOME TO PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Phoenix, Ariz. (April 14, 2009)- While Phoenix, Ariz. native Michael McDowell has only one NASCAR Nationwide Series start at the Phoenix International Raceway, he knows his way around. McDowell's resume includes seven starts in everything from the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
"Phoenix is home to so many great memories. My very first race at PIR was in the Star Mazda Series. We scored the pole and won the race. I also made my second career Nationwide Series start at PIR and finished 14th", said McDowell.
McDowell's focus this weekend will be finding victory lane in his #47 Pacific Packaging Group Nationwide Series car. Bringing a brand new car, McDowell is looking for results in Phoenix.
"I am looking for a great run at PIR. We have run better than our results show all season long and I look forward to proving it with a great finish this weekend", said McDowell.
- 2009: McDowell has one top-10 finish in 2009, First Career Laps Led: Nashville Superspeedway, April 11.
- Phoenix Stats: 1 NASCAR Nationwide Series Start in 2007: Finished 14th.
- Home Sweet Home: While many teams and drivers stay in hotels near the track, McDowell will be staying with his family in the Phoenix area.
"My hometown of Phoenix is a great place to race. PIR is a very fast, very flat race track which is extremely technical for both driver and car. There are heavy braking zones that suit my driving style and give us great passing opportunities by out-braking the other drivers into the corner."
The No. 47 Pacific Packaging Group JTG Daugherty Racing team will compete with brand new chassis #52 in this weekend's Bashas' Supermarkets 200.
