Pastrana and no. 60 team finish 24th at Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. (October 7, 2013) – Travis Pastrana and the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing team battled all night to finish 24th in the Dollar General 300 from Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday night.

“Charlotte is by far my worst track,” said Pastrana. “I've yet to make it through qualifying without spinning, but it was really good to finish the race without going around or hitting a wall. We had a decent run in the center but after going down a lap early and losing another lap when I had to pit under green due to a hot dog wrapper on the grille, the team never gave up and we ran strong until the end.”

The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) brought at 21-race stretch to a close Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Before two off weekends, NNS drivers battled for 300 miles at the tough 1.5-mile track.

During qualifying earlier Friday evening, Pastrana spun coming to take the green flag. NASCAR allowed the team to change four tires and make another qualifying attempt. The No. 60 would qualify 31st.

Around Lap 10 of the opening green flag run, Pastrana started to work his way forward from his starting position. By the time the No. 60 came down pit road for the first stop of the day, Pastrana had advanced to 23rd. The team called the driver down pit road for a green flag stop on Lap 50, taking four tires and fuel, as well as a track bar adjustment to help the loose-handling Mustang.

Two laps later, the first caution flag of the day flew. The team radioed Pastrana down pit road, this time opting for fuel only. The driver of the No. 60 restarted 23rd and worked his way up to 21st, until he was forced to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop on Lap 85. The grille picked up debris and in order to avoid overheating, Pastrana came down pit road to get it cleaned.

Pastrana exited the pits in 32nd, two laps down. Another caution flag flew on Lap 92, giving the team the opportunity to take the wave around and get one lap back. On Lap 93 the team restarted in 31st, one lap down.

Throughout the remainder of the race, the team continued to adjust on the car to make it more to Pastrana’s liking, while the driver battled to get into position for the free pass. The caution flag never flew, with the No. 60 finishing the race in 24th.
