BUSCH HUNTING FIRST NASHVILLE NATIONWIDE VICTORY
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 2, 2009) - There's something about Kyle Busch that isn't quite to Nashville Superspeedway's liking. How else would you explain a stat line that includes zero wins and only two top- ten finishes in seven career starts for the NASCAR Nationwide Series' hottest driver? He's led a total of 268 laps at the 1.333-mile facility but none of those laps served as the final lap-the path to the coveted Gibson Trophy Guitar.
For his second Nashville outing in 2009, Busch will pilot his No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry in hopes that this will be the race that allows him to break through and score his first win at the track in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition. He earned his first career ARCA RE/MAX Series win at Nashville in 2003 while driving for car owner Joe Nemechek.
This weekend's race will serve as a bit of a challenge for Busch as he will likely miss practice and possibly qualifying due to his obligations with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. Jeremy Clements will serve as the substitute driver in Busch's absence.
Busch currently leads the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings by 40 points over second place Carl Edwards, following last weekend's 17th place finish at Dover International Speedway.
KYLE ON RACING IN NASHVILLE
What is it going to take to break through and score your first win at Nashville Superspeedway this weekend?
"Some luck. The reason we haven't won hasn't been for a lack of trying. The JGR organization has figured this place out for sure as seen by Joey (Logano) winning there the first time around. They (20 car) were just a little bit better than we were in the first race there. Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) has done a great job there in the past. We really just need to be a little bit better than we were in the last time there and hope that we have can finally get some luck to come our way. The only thing you can do is go out and focus on what we can do to make our NOS Energy Drink Toyota better and not worry about everyone else. I'd love to put the NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry in victory lane here and add another guitar to our trophy collection."
Kyle Busch has never scored a NASCAR Nationwide Series win at Nashville Superspeedway. Kyle has an average finish of 17.4 in seven career Nationwide Series starts at Nashville, including a runner-up finish this spring. Kyle has led a total of 268 laps at Nashville. His highest single-race total was 125 in the March 2008 race.
