Chase Miller Knows the Way around Nashville Superspeedway
Statesville, NC -- This weekend's NASCAR Nationwide Series race will be a relatively familiar one for Chase Miller. It's the first track in his early career where he already has the most starts -- two.
Miller made his NNS debut at the 1.33-mile, concrete oval of Nashville Superspeedway last year starting and finishing 22nd. Earlier this year, he returned to Nashville starting 16th and finishing 14th making the mid-Tennessee track familiar racing grounds for the 21-year old, Canton, Ga. native.
Now, with a total of 10 NNS starts to his credit, Miller has an outside pole and top-10 finish to his credit. And, he's hoping the No. 9 Country Crock Dodge team will be able to capitalize on what they've learned since that first Nashville start.
How long ago does that first start seem: "I know it was only last year, but with all that's gone on since then it seem longer. This team has grown; I'm sharing a ride with Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler and Patrick Carpentier. I mean, I didn't ever think I'd be doing something like that when Ray first told me to stop by the shop to see about me getting a ride.
You're returning to a track for the third time already; any advantage: "Just like anything in racing, the more familiar you are with the car, the crew, the set-up or a track the more confident you're are in the race. I like Nashville, how it's laid out and racing on the concrete there. It gives you more to work with than an asphalt track because it doesn't change with the temperature of the night as much.
Do you like racing under the lights: "Racing is at its finest when you are competing under the lights. Like most everyone else, I started out at the short tracks on a Saturday night going for checkered flags. Something happens to the drivers and the fans when it's a night race and I don't expect Nashville to be any different this weekend. It might be a bigger track than what we all started on, but it's still the same mentality for drivers. We're just going to make the race with a good spot, learn all we can, finish on the lead lap and bring it home in one piece."
Kirk Almquist Quotes, Team Director
"The car we're taking has three top-10 finishes the last four times. We had it here a months ago and Chase finished 14th with this same car. This team has a lot of momentum going into Nashville after having top-10 runs in the last three races. We know our boy Chase is pumped and ready, especially after that first top-10 we earned in Darlington. With him having experience here, it helps all of us in regards to getting information we need. Chase is real good about that and returning to a track for the third time should be even better for this team."
Car Info: They will use GEM No. B-21; which has three top-10s in last four races used
