No. 47 Little Debbie/Glad Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing
Starting Position: 1st
How exciting was your qualifying run?
"The track was in great condition -- it was nice and cool. There was good grip. All of us were in qualifying trim somewhat with high tire pressures. We were always going to go fast, but I didn't expect to go that fast. Joey (Logano) was just telling me he thinks I need a bodyguard for tomorrow if I beat Canada from the pole position. We're really excited about it. It's a good day for us. I didn't expect to get the pole. I didn't think my car was good enough in practice. We made a lot of changes to it and it looks like they have all been good ones."
Did you have any idea you and Jacques (Villeneuve) were going back and forth for the pole in qualifying?
"The less I know the better. This little Tasmanian head can't take too much information in. I didn't ask to know what position I was in either. In qualifying like that I just start gnawing on that steering wheel and start to fight the car and not worry about too much else. I knew that the laps were good, but I also know that there were a lot of good cars in that last group and anyone of them could have challenged us for the pole."
Does it mean anything special to beat Jacques (Villeneuve) for the pole in his hometown?
"Yes. This photo (of he and Jacques Villeneuve) is going on the wall, for sure. It's going straight to the pool room. I'm really pumped up about it. Jacques (Villeneuve) doesn't know that he's been a hero of mine ever since I knew what racing was when I saw him coming through the ranks. The Indy 500 win he had in the Player's car. Cross over to F1. I watched him with envy wishing I could be him. Today, I think he wishes he could be me."
