BUSCH LOOKING TO EXPAND POINT LEAD IN IRISH HILLS
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (August 11, 2009) - Kyle Busch has been a pillar of consistency in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Last weekend at Watkins Glen International, Busch scored his eighth runner-up finish of 2009 to go along with six wins. The result was also the tenth-straight race in which Busch finished first or second (breaking the 1983 record held by Jack Ingram) and the 19th-straight race in which Busch has led at least one lap (tying the record held by Sam Ard).
This weekend Busch will make his third career start at Michigan International Speedway in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition. Despite not participating in recent Nationwide Series races, the Irish Hills have been kind to Busch, awarding him a win in his first career start in 2004.
Busch, behind the wheel of his blue and orange NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry this weekend, hopes that Saturday's Carfax 250 keeps his streak of consistency intact: he currently holds a 212 point lead over rival Carl Edwards in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings-a lead that Busch has expanded in the last two races.
KYLE ON RACING AT MICHIGAN
What are your thoughts on being at Michigan International Speedway in a Nationwide car for the first time since 2006?
"It has been a while, hasn't it? Michigan is a fun place to race and I'm happy to get a shot in a JGR car there for the first time. It's wide-open and it should be fun with the double-file restart rule in place, based off of the Sprint Cup race (earlier this year). It's important that we make this car as comfortable as we can and find grip since a good-handling car goes a long way here. We won the race at California earlier this year so I'm hoping we can do the same at Michigan this weekend. Jason (Ratcliff) and this whole NOS Energy Drink team has done a great job all year and we need to be at our best this week because Carl (Edwards) has been pretty good there and we need to keep finishing ahead of him to keep our points lead strong."
