MICHAEL McDOWELL TO PILOT NO. 26 ENTRY FOR NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACES AT IOWA SPEEDWAY AND WATKINS GLEN

MOORESVILLE, NC (July 31, 2009) - NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver Michael McDowell announced today that he is joining the No. 26 entry for the next two NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Iowa Speedway and Watkins Glen International. The No. 26 entry, owned by Dusty Whitney, is currently 31st in the owner standings, just 48 points shy of the coveted 30th spot that guarantees a locked-in starting spot in a race.

A rookie of the year candidate, McDowell has raced all 20 Nationwide Series races this season; the first 17 races for JTG Daugherty Racing in the No. 47 car and the last three races for MacDonald Motorsports in the No. 81 car. McDowell remains 11th in the driver standings heading into this weekend's U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.

"Points wise, it's a good deal for both of us," said McDowell, a 24-year-old native of Phoenix, Ariz. "The No. 26 team is looking for me to drive them into the top 30 in points to lock them in for future races, while I'm looking to keep my driver points standing steady."

McDowell, who may return to the No. 47 or No. 81 car if additional sponsorship funding is secured, has recorded 12 top 15 finishes this season, which include three finishes in the top 10. His best finish is sixth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.
