David Ragan, driver of the No. 6 Discount Tire Ford Fusion seeks to improve upon his 14th place finish during last year's race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. Ragan currently sits fourth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points.
"We'd like to improve our finish from last year. We finished 14th, I don't think we were that good, we just kinda got lucky there towards the end of the race. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I'm really looking forward to the first road course of '08; hopefully, we've improved some not only in the Nationwide car, but in the Cup car. I'm looking forward to running this weekend."
YOU'VE HAD PRETTY SOLID FINISHES THIS SEASON, DOES THE MOMENTUM CARRY HERE TO MEXICO? "Oh, yeah, it certainly does a little bit. We know coming in that there's some guys that are probably going to over shadow us a little bit or are better road racers that are better known to run well. It's our opportunity to do a good job and get a good finish and complete the circle between the road course and the superspeedways and the short tracks and everything in between."
ARE YOU GETTING MORE COMFORTABLE ON ROAD COURSES? "Oh, yeah, with time you get more comfortable with anything and again, time will tell here. We haven't been able to run any here since last year. It will be interesting to see how quickly we adapt to the track, but I'm defiantly more comfortable shifting and braking and driving the car left and right."
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE KEY TO WINNING HERE? "Making the right pit call and making no mistakes. You've got to have good track position but you can't lock the brakes up, smoke the tires, run off the track and do crazy stuff like that. You've got to be fast but mistakes will certainly hurt you at a place like this."
IS A PLACE THAT YOU LOOK FORWARD TO RACING? "Yeah, it is something different, plus Cup is off. It is kind of a different experience, different weekend. It's fun to come down here and experience new things."
