When it comes to NASCAR Nationwide Series racing at Kentucky Speedway, Joey Logano as a potential winner is pretty much a given. Really, a potential Logano win is pretty much a given anytime the Joe Gibbs Racing driver enters a series race this year.
Logano is, without a doubt, the hottest driver in the Nationwide Series this year. After all, he's won four of the five most recent races he's entered in the series and has five wins, overall, in series competition in 2012.
Ever since I ran my first Nationwide race there back in 2008, I've just had a pretty good knack for Kentucky.
His Nationwide stats specific to Kentucky Speedway are just as impressive. It wasn't all that long ago that Logano laid claim to three-straight series wins at the track. He ruled the track from 2008 until 2010 before Brad Keselowski drove the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge to victory lane there last year. Not to mention, Logano also has three series poles at the track. Three poles and three wins at a track are pretty impressive results when you consider that they were obtained in only three starts.
"I'm really looking forward to Kentucky," Logano said. "I enjoy the track, and I've been fortunate enough to have a lot of success there over the last couple of years in the Nationwide Series. It's one of those places that you just take to."
That's putting it mildly.
The first Kentucky pole and win in 2008 came in Logano's third-career Nationwide Series start and gave him the record of youngest-ever series winner at the ripe old age of 18 years and 21 days.
"Ever since I ran my first Nationwide race there back in 2008, I've just had a pretty good knack for Kentucky," Logano said.
Also worth noting, despite driving the No. 18 Toyota for JGR in several of his Nationwide races this year, on Friday night, he'll be back behind the wheel of the No. 20 -- the car in which he posted those three wins.
Logano's winning tradition at Kentucky Speedway goes back even further than his dominance of Nationwide Series competition. He first visited the track at the age of 12 for a Young Lions Nationals competition, driving a Legends car on the quarter-mile track that uses part of the "big track" pit road. He won that race, too.
Logano will get the chance to pick up where he left off in 2010 as far as Kentucky-specific wins go, or June 16th as far as 2012 Nationwide dominance goes, Friday night when the green flag waves on the Feed the Children 300 Nationwide event at Kentucky shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET. He'll try for his fourth pole at the track earlier in the day, with pole qualifying scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
