Chris Buescher had everything he needed to win Friday night’s Food City 300 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Well, everything except enough gas.

Buescher led the way on the start of a two-lap overtime but quickly began to slow as his No. 60 Ford ran out of fuel. As Buescher fell off the pace, Kyle Busch swooped in to overtake him and claim the NASCAR Xfinity Series victory.

The win is Busch’s third this season and the 73rd of his career for the all-time series wins leader. It was also his eighth series victory at Bristol. The win is also his 150th win across all three NASCAR national series - Sprint Cup, Xfinity and Trucks.

“I was just hoping (Buescher) would run out of gas and obviously that happened. It was fun. I was trying and giving it everything I had, we were just fortunate it worked out for us,” said Busch.

Buescher was close on fuel as the race wound to its conclusion but his team was confident he had enough to make the distance. What they weren’t planning for was a late-race caution.

Brad Teague’s wreck with five of the scheduled 300 laps to go brought out a caution and set up a two-lap overtime finish.

Buescher, who remains the series points leader, was obviously disappointed after the race.

“Just ran out of gas. I’m mad. It sucks,” he said. “We were so good.”

Daniel Suarez, who finished fifth, won the $100,000 Dash4Cash bonus among the four eligible drivers. Suarez, Ty Dillon, Brian Scott and Chase Elliott will be eligible for the final $100,000 bonus in the Sept. 5 race at Darlington, S.C.

Kyle Larson finished second in the race, pole-winner Denny Hamlin was third and Dillon fourth. Buescher ended finishing 11th.
