LOGANO CLAIMS SECOND CAREER KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY NNS POLE AWARD

SPARTA, Ky.--For the second time in as many tries, Joey Logano will sit on the pole for the NASCAR Nationwide Series "Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz" at Kentucky Speedway. Logano, who turned the fastest practice laps in two Friday practice sessions, took the pole with a lap speed of 174.865 mph (30.881 seconds).

Logano earned his first Nationwide Series victory as a rookie in the 2008 event at Kentucky Speedway, winning from the pole by the widest margin in the series track history (2.259 seconds). He now owns another Kentucky Speedway series record, becoming the first repeat pole winner in the series' ninth visit to Sparta.

"There was nothing great about those two laps," the driver of No. 20 GameStop machine said. "I was sideways for the whole lap, but apparently it was fast. We'll just have to see--we'll work on it all night and hopefully it will come to us."

The pole is Logano's second of the season, and the fifth for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2009. His teammate, Kyle Busch, will join Logano in row one after qualifying second with a 174.848-mph (30.884 seconds) lap. Busch arrived just eight minutes before his spot in the qualifying order and will run in all three of NASCAR's main series this weekend. He collected a second-place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event in Michigan earlier in the day.

Logano became the youngest winner in series history in just his third career start at last year's "Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz," and will have to rely on his limited experience on the 1.5-mile tri-oval track if he is to become the first repeat winner in track series history.

"It's a type of track that fits me. There aren't many places I have a lot of experience, but I've run a lot of laps around here. I don't care who you are, that helps."

The is no shortage of experience in the rest of the "Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz" field, with 12 drivers in the field of 43 combining for 14 prior wins in various events held at Kentucky Speedway.

Tonight's "Meijer 300 Presented by Ritz" will air live on ESPN2 with coverage beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST. The green flag is schedule to drop at 8:45 p.m. EST.
