Josh Berry gets another shot with JR Motorsports

Josh Berry, a two-time Late Model champion for JR Motorsports, is going to get another shot in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

JRM announced Tuesday that Berry will drive the organization’s No. 88 Chevrolet in the Sept. 11 Xfinity race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

Berry made two starts in the series for JRM last season, finishing 12th at Iowa and 25th at Homestead, Fla.

“We’ve had a really good season so far in the late model car, and I’m really excited to get to do another Xfinity race, especially at a race track I’ve been to before,” said Berry, 24.

“I ran in the series twice last year and wasn’t sure I would have the opportunity to do it again, but luckily Speedco came on board for this race. I’m really thankful for their support.”

JRM is co-owned by Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., Rick Hendrick and Earnhardt’s sister, Kelley Earnhardt Miller.

“We’re happy to be able to put Josh in our Xfinity car again at a track he has some laps on to allow him to show what he can do,” said Earnhardt Jr. “I felt like he performed well last year in the two races he was able to run.

“He’s really elevated himself as a driver this year, winning at multiple tracks in the late model to earn this opportunity and I expect him to make the most of it.”  

Berry has earned nine wins in JRM’s No. 88 late model this season and stands as JRM’s only multi-time champion, notching two NASCAR Whelen All-America Series track championships (Motor Mile Speedway in 2012 and Hickory Motor Speedway in 2014).  All totaled, he owns 24 victories for JRM during his late model career.

Berry will be the fifth driver in the No. 88 car this season. It’s also been piloted by Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne and Ben Rhodes. Harvick has won two races in the car this season.
