West Des Moines Police Department Recognized as 'Incredible Heroes'

Mooresville, NC (July 29, 2009) - 'Incredible Heroes' come in many forms. Sometimes its individuals that go above and beyond and other times its organizations that reach out and touch people's lives. This week, the West Des Moines Police Department will be honored as an 'Incredible Hero'.

The Crime Prevention Unit was developed by the West Des Moines Police Department in hopes of benefiting the community in a number of different areas. Law enforcement has a significant, but by no means solo, part to play in controlling, reducing and preventing crime. But in order to further the cause, the community and law enforcement joined together in an effort toward crime reduction. The West Des Moines Police Department has set out to educate and assist the community in measures that can be taken to reduce the opportunity for crime to even occur.

One of the most notable programs offered to the community is Safety Town. Safety Town is a comprehensive educational program introducing safety awareness and prevention procedures for kids about to start kindergarten. This one of a kind program features safety awareness in the home, in traffic, on a school bus, with strangers, and with poisons. The activities include fun in the Safety Town village, a trip to the WDM Law Enforcement Center and the Fire Station, a presentation, and a graduation ceremony for the kids. Safety Town is a joint effort facilitated by the police officers and West Des Moines teachers.

For their dedication to the community, the West Des Moines Police Department, and more specifically the Crime Prevention Unit, will be honored as this week's 'Incredible Hero' at Iowa Speedway.

The 'Incredible Heroes' are extended an invite to attend the NASCAR Nationwide Series race as guests of CJM Racing and the America's Incredible Pizza Company. Each hero receives a plaque in recognition of their heroism and they spend a VIP day at the race track.

The Incredible Heroes campaign will run throughout the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. If you know of an 'Incredible Hero' and would like to nominate him or her please email: heroes@incrediblepizza.com for consideration or check out www.incrediblepizza.com/contests/incredibleheroes.
