Nationwide Series Driver Michael Annett to Throw First Pitch at Iowa Cubs Game
Des Moines, Iowa (July 22, 2009) -- Before heading to the next stop on the NASCAR Nationwide Series circuit, Des Moines native Michael Annett will venture to his home state to Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa for NASCAR Night with the Iowa Cubs as they take on Omaha tonight. Annett and fellow NASCAR Nationwide Series competitor Brian Ickler will preview the game with an autograph session for fans from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. before the first pitch is thrown at 7 p.m.
Before heading to the stadium for the big game, Annett will sign autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for sponsor HYPE Energy Drinks at the Ankeny, Iowa Kum and Go gas and convenient store location. HYPE will be providing free samples of their three popular energy drink flavors, and visitors can test their skills against Annett in a NASCAR race simulator. Kum and Go locations in 12 states throughout the U.S. now carry these three HYPE Energy Drinks selections.
Annett will then visit local radio station 1460 KXNO for an in-studio interview. Be sure to listen to Annett on the Des Moines sports station's "Murph and Andy" show with hosts Keith Murphy and Andy Fales live at 2:30 p.m.
Next, Annett will stop by US Cellular, sponsor of Iowa Speedway's US Cellular 250 presented by Northland Oil and TMC Transportation, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at their Altoona, Iowa location. In addition to competing in the Nationwide Series race at Iowa on August 1, Annett will drive a US Cellular sponsored USAC Silver Crown car in Iowa Speedway's USAC Silver Crown Challenge on Friday, July 31.
Annett looks forward to returning to Des Moines to throw out the first pitch at the Iowa Cubs game, and is especially eager to compete at Iowa Speedway in two weeks for the Nationwide Series US Cellular 250 presented by Northland Oil and TMC Transportation in Germain Racing's No. 15 Northland Oil Toyota Camry.
"I'm excited to set foot on my home turf in Iowa. Iowa Speedway is my home track and a place where I have a lot of experience, so I'm really looking forward to the inaugural Nationwide Series race there" said Annett. "The Iowa Cubs have given us a great opportunity to come out and preview the race at Iowa Speedway. Throwing out the first pitch should be an exciting experience, and it will be great for NASCAR and Iowa Speedway to have a big presence at the game tonight," said Annett who holds the record for most competitive laps at Iowa Speedway.
In between traveling to his home state of Iowa for the Cubs game and the Iowa race, Annett will continue the three week stretch of short track racing for the Nationwide Series in Indianapolis, Indiana for O'Reilly Raceway Park's Kroger 200. Coming off of his best finish this season at Gateway International Raceway, Annett and his No. 15 Germain Racing team look forward to Saturday's Kroger 200 at ORP. Annett was the highest finishing Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate in Gateway's Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 presented by Ventrilo, finishing seventh for his second time this season.
"Our top-10 finish definitely gives us confidence going into ORP and Iowa. Germain Racing's Nationwide Series short track program just keeps improving. Seventh place at Gateway proves that we've got what it takes for the next two weeks of short track racing," said Annett.
