Michael Annett Makes Last Start as a Rookie in NNS Season Finale at Homestead
Homestead, Fla. (November 19, 2009) -- As his final race with a rookie yellow stripe fixed to his rear bumper, Michael Annett will make his last laps as a Raybestos Rookie this weekend at the Nationwide Series season finale Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Annett's first ever start in the Nationwide Series was exactly one year ago at Homestead for Germain Racing, and the young driver has come full circle since his Nationwide Series debut.
"Since the race this season at Gateway we've made some improvements and we really began to hit our stride as a team. Our consistent runs from that point on have given us the momentum we needed to keep getting better throughout the rest of the year," said Annett.
"Michael has shown great improvement throughout the season. Watching how far he's come in such a short amount of time is incredible. Just last year at this time, he was getting in a Nationwide car for his first time and didn't have experience at many of the tracks on the circuit," said spotter Slugger Labbe, "To now say that he's tenth in points and has a good amount of strong finishes is great. This kid definitely has talent, and his success this season proves it. I'm very proud of him and excited to be a part of it."
Annett and his No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers/Germain.com team set a goal to finish in the top-10 in points, and currently sitting steady in tenth, a strong run in Saturday's Ford 300 at Homestead Miami Speedway will finish the 2009 season with a nice cap for the year. If he claims that position in points following this weekend's race at Homestead, it will be the first time since 2005 that three Raybestos Rookie of the Year contenders have finished in the top-10. The 2005 trio of top-10 rookies were Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin and Reed Sorenson.
"Tenth in points would be a great accomplishment for our entire Germain Racing team. Everyone has worked really hard to get where we are, and we're excited to keep getting better and have a solid season again next year in the Nationwide Series. We wouldn't be able to do it without our sponsor Pilot Travel Centers, so we're very grateful for their continuous support and look forward to continuing racing with them in 2010," said Annett.
