IRL's Popular Driver Reaches Deal with NASCAR's JR Motorsports
San Bernardino County, Calif. (Dec. 8, 2010) -- Danica Patrick, arguably open-wheel racing's most talked about driver, announced today that she will run a limited NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule in 2010. At a press conference in Phoenix, the Izod IndyCar Series driver announced she reached a deal to drive for JR Motorsports and team owners Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Rick Hendrick.
The next question: Will she race at Auto Club Speedway in February? She has before, competing in the IndyCar Series at Auto Club Speedway in 2005. In the IRL TOYOTA Indy 400, then-rookie Patrick qualified 4th, and finished 18th.
Should she decide to hit the asphalt at Southern California's Premier motorsports facility for the Stater Bros. 300, fans can witness history for as low as $30 as general admission tickets for the Saturday NNS event begin at that price point. With free admission for children 12 and under in effect for events on Friday and Saturday of race weekend, race fans can attend the Stater Bros. 300 NNS event on Feb. 20, 2010 for as low as $30 and the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR, Feb. 21, the Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 500 for as low as $35. Reserved seats for Saturday are $50.
Fans experiencing Auto Club Speedway can also take advantage of free parking, bring in their own food, or partake in the unbelievable menu items on site as well as other cost-savings opportunities while enjoying a full day of entertainment and fun at a fantastic family value.
Patrick will begin her stock car career at an ARCA Series test at Daytona International Speedway on Dec. 18-20. The plan is to enter Patrick in the ARCA opener in February at Daytona and get approval by NASCAR for the Nationwide opener. She is expected to run around 12 races.
