McDOWELL FIGHTS BACK AT THE MONSTER MILE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dover, Del. (May 30, 2009)- Michael McDowell came from a 29th place starting position to finish 11th at Dover International Speedway on Saturday.

"We fought the car all weekend long. In practice, our car was bottoming out on the track so hard we could never get a full lap in. Then in qualifying, we had an oil pump fail on us. The Monster Mile was really playing rough," said McDowell.

Qualifying 29th, McDowell slowly moved up the running order by picking off cars on the high side. On lap 28, McDowell pitted for four tires and a chassis adjustment already moved up to 20th. It was no easy task however as on lap 78, McDowell made an evasive maneuver miss a crash my inches.

"Guys were really aggressive out there today. I missed about two or three accidents that really shouldn't have happened in the first place. ," said McDowell.

More excitement ensued on lap 158 when the right rear of another car made contact with the nose of the ConstructionJobs.com #47. McDowell then came down pit road to the attention of the JTG Daugherty crew with left front fender damage and four tires on the docket.

"I tried to get out of the gas when I saw the 11 coming back up, but it was too late. Those incidents are tough because you get pinned against the wall with nowhere to avoid the other car," said McDowell.

After running around the top-15 for the latter half of the race, the field was shown a green-white-checkered finish. After restarting 14th, McDowell passed three cars in two laps to finish 11th.

"What a tough day. I can't express how proud I am of the JTG Daugherty Racing crew. To overcome the adversity all weekend long and finish 11th is really a great effort. I mean, not bad for changing an engine an hour before the race," said McDowell

This 11th place finish puts McDowell 11th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship standings, only 26 points from of 10th and 518 points from the lead.
