38TH PLACE FINISH FOR JOHN WES TOWNLEY AT THE MONSTER MILE
Dover, DE (5-31-09) -- A promising weekend for John Wes Townley and the No. 09 Zaxby's Racing team was bashed Saturday when the 19-year-old rookie was involved in an incident on lap 26 and left with a 38th-place finish in the Heluva Good! 200 at Dover International Speedway.
When the green flag dropped on the 12th event of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, Townley was sitting comfortably inside row 14. However, when the 43-car field took the green flag just past 2:30 p.m. ET some cars got stacked up in front of the No.09 machine and with nowhere to go Townley made contact with the rear of the No. 77 of Peyton Sellers causing hood and fender damage on the Zaxby's Ford Fusion.
Fortunately, on lap three a caution flag was displayed for an accident in Turn 1 and crew chief Brad Parrott called the No. 09 machine down pit road to repair the damage. When racing resumed on lap seven Townley was scored in the 38th position.
Townley would gain six more positions on the race track but lose one lap to race leader, Joey Logano before making contact with the No. 23 of Ken Butler on the backstretch. The incident would ultimately end Townley's night early.
The Raybestos Rookie contender would be scored in the 38th position, 174 laps down to race winner Brad Keselowski.
The unfavorable result leaves the No. 09 team 35th in owners points; 247 points outside the top-30.
Next up for John Wes Townley and RAB Racing is the Federated Auto Parts 300 from Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, June 6th. Townley finished 18th at the 1.333-mile oval in April.
