No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Team Scores 12th Place Finish at Nationwide Series Season Opener
Daytona Beach, Fla. (February 14, 2010) -- Paired as rookie driver and crew chief in 2009, Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett and crew chief Ryan Fugle proved the skills they learned last season by starting the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series season with a 12th place finish at the season opener Drive 4 COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
Heading into Daytona feeling fully prepared for the season ahead, Annett and his No. 15 Germain Racing crew proved their hard work in the off season by finishing final practice on Thursday second on the speed chart.
With qualifying for the Nationwide Series Drive 4 COPD 300 washed out on Friday by rainy weather, the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry started 18th according to owner point standings at the conclusion of the 2009 Nationwide Series season.
Remaining strong throughout the entire 120 lap race, Annett managed to dodge trouble on the track by avoiding major on-track incidents during the race with only minimal damage to his Toyota Camry.
"To bring it home in one piece was a lot to say after that race. Of course we would have liked to finish in the top-five or top-10, but we're happy heading into next week's race in California with a 12th place finish," said Annett, "We've got a long season ahead to prove how good this No. 15 team is and rack up some better finishes. Daytona was a great start to the season and a good momentum builder for next week's race at Auto Club Speedway."
"We overcame some slight damage from the wrecks, but were lucky enough to dodge the big one. Michael did a good job out on the track and the Germain Racing crew did a great job fixing the minor damage to the car on pit road. We'll definitely take this 12th place finish and move on to California with a positive attitude," said Crew Chief Ryan Fugle.
Up next, the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers team heads to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California for the Stater Bros. 300. Annett earned his best finish of the 2009 season on California's two mile track, so the Germain Racing team looks forward to repeating their success on Saturday.
