Michael Annett Enters into 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series Season Full Speed Ahead
Daytona, Fla. (February 10, 2009) -- Competing in his first NASCAR Nationwide Series event in the 2009 season at Daytona International Speedway, Michael Annett will drive the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers/Hype Energy Drink Toyota Camry in the Camping World 300 on Saturday, February 14, 2009. As well as running a full Nationwide Series season for Germain Racing, Annett will be contending for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award.
"I'm really excited to start the season off and compete for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year. I've been looking forward to participating in the Nationwide Series program for awhile now, and I'm very thankful that Germain has given me the opportunity to drive the No. 15 Toyota Camry," said Annett.
The young driver couldn't be happier to start out the season with Germain Racing, and is enthused about bringing sponsors Pilot Travel Centers and Hype Energy Drink to NASCAR's Nationwide Series.
Annett remarked, "I have been very fortunate to have Pilot Travel Centers as a partner for the past three years of my career and I'm very proud to get the opportunity to represent them as we enter into the Nationwide Series together. I'm also excited that Hype Energy Drink has come on board with our Nationwide Series program. I feel very privileged and excited to have both companies as sponsors."
Annett's history on superspeedways should prove beneficial as he competes in this week's 120 lap Nationwide Series event. Daytona International Speedway brought him an ARCA RE/MAX Series victory in last year's ARCA 200 and in 2007 he won at Talladega Superspeedway in the ARCA RE/MAX 250.
"Michael is a natural talent on superspeedways. It's amazing how well he does without having much experience on anything bigger than a mile. Saturday should be a good start to the season for our team," said crew chief Bruce Cook.
Last season Cook led Germain Racing's first full-time Nationwide Series team to an eighth place finish in points. Annett's superspeedway achievements combined with Germain Racing's 2008 success should be an advantage to the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers/Hype Energy Drink team.
Cook commented. "In the short time Michael and I have worked together, we've been able to build a great relationship both on and off the track. With last year's team success and Michael being a great driver to work with, I'm pumped to get the No. 15 entry on the track this Saturday at Daytona," said Cook.
