Todd Bodine Watkins Glen International NASCAR Busch Series Notes

On Watkins Glen: Todd Bodine returns home this weekend when the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division visits Watkins Glen International for the Lysol 200. The driver of the Phillips 66 Chevy has developed quite a record in Busch Series competition at the 2.45-mile oval. Bodine has never finished outside the top five at Watkins Glen. His two most recent Busch Series events at Watkins Glen were in 1996 and 1997 which resulted in a pair of second place finishes. Bodine says he hopes to break his string of top-two finishes with a win this weekend.

"I always look forward to going to Watkins Glen," Bodine said. "It's home for me. I have always run well there. I love road course racing. It's something I just took to and was able to be pretty good at. I did go to school for road course racing, but it was like a natural fit for me. I have always done well at those race tracks."

The Lysol 200 is scheduled to take place regardless of the weather. The Busch Series will compete in the rain for the first time if precipitation falls. Crew Chief Donnie Richeson said the Phillips 66 team is prepared - rain or shine.

"Mike (McLaughlin) tested up there in the rain and they learned that it wasn't a lot different," Richeson said. "There are a few compensations to make on the car because it is slick. Drivers can't get in the gas as much. I think the biggest issue for drivers will be trying to see. It's hard for you when you're driving behind a couple cars in the rain. There will be a whole pack of cars on the track spraying water. I think that will be hard for these guys because they've never had to do that. But, road racing is a different ball game anyway."

Equipment: The car Bodine will compete with this weekend in Watkins Glen is a new race car. The new car, christened "Skippy," was named after a Phillips 66 team member's pet.

Two weeks ago in South Boston: Bodine posted his best qualifying effort of the 1999 season by starting third at South Boston two weeks ago. Bodine ran among the top-five cars during the first half of the race. He led a lap for the first time in 1999 and picked up the Gatorade Front Runner award for leading at halfway. A couple of incidents in the race prevented Bodine from picking up his first win of the year and he finished the race in 12th place.

Bodine Favorite: Bodine's favorite state is his native New York.
