· Elliott Sadler makes his debut in the No. 35 SCANA/Powertel Chevrolet this weekend, several races later than expected. Plans to have Sadler begin driving the Team Amick entry at Myrtle Beach were put on hold after the car the team had earmarked for Sadler to drive suffered severe damage during the July 4th DieHard 200 at Milwaukee. · Another setback came when Sadler injured his foot during Winston Cup Qualifying at the Pocono Raceway on July 24th. Heeding his doctors' advice, Sadler elected not to drive the No. 35 in the Carquest Auto Parts 250 at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis on July 31st. · Sadler has already competed in 10 Busch Series events this season. He served as the fill-in driver for the No. 47 Monro Muffler and Brake Chevrolet while Andy Santerre recuperated from a broken leg suffered in the season opener at Daytona. In those ten events, Sadler scored two top-10's, with a seventh-place finish at Las Vegas, and a fifth-place finish at California. · Plans call for Sadler to drive the No. 35 in all the remaining races on the Busch Series schedule in 1999. · Lyndon Amick, who's driven the No. 35 car in 16 events this season, plans to drive a second team car bearing the No. 88 at several of the remaining races on the schedule. The team will announce which events Amick will compete in at a later date.
Elliott Sadler, Driver: On the Michigan Speedway: "I've ran well in the Busch Series at Michigan in the past, and it's a great track for racing. The width of the track allows for fast, three-wide racing, which makes it exciting for the fans."
On being in the No. 35 car: "I'm looking forward to my first weekend in the No. 35 SCANA/Powertel Busch car this weekend, and I know the team is looking forward to racing at Michigan. I was scheduled to start driving the car earlier this year, but after I hit the wall at Pocono, my doctors and I agreed that it would be smart to sit out for a week and let my foot heal."
On his goals for this weekend's Busch race: "The plan for this weekend is just to have a good qualifying run, and have a good finish in the race. I know this team is capable of running up front. Lyndon has already proven that with some great qualifying runs this year. Hopefully, I can pick up where he left off and get Team Amick a good finish, and get myself some more seat time and experience."
