Stremme Can't Buy a Break at Talladega
Talladega, AL (April 24, 2004) -- David Stremme qualified 18th for this weekend's Aaron's 312 at Talladega Superspeedway. From the drop of the green flag it was obvious Stremme's TRIMSPA X32 Dodge was strong in the draft. The first lap Stremme climbed ten positions into eighth place. Stremme, who was driving in his first Busch Series start at Talladega, climbed to as high as sixth in the first green flag run.
"The TRIMSPA Dodge was really strong," said Stremme. "I could pretty much put my car wherever I wanted to in the draft and run. We were just trying to stay out of trouble until the end. We kept it clean all day. That just wasn't enough to change our luck."
While preparing to pit under the second caution of the day on lap 45, Stremme lost fuel pressure on the long Talladega backstretch. Stremme coasted behind the wall, giving up the seventh position. Team TRIMSPA jumped into action to repair what turned out to be an ignition failure. Stremme returned to the track 26 laps down from the leaders, but soldiered on to finish 40th on the day.
"The month of April has not been good to Team TRIMSPA," admitted Stremme. "In all but one race this year we have absolutely had a top-10 and several times a top-five car. If we keep that up our luck is bound to change."
Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will look break their bad luck streak when the Busch Series visits California Speedway for the 1-800-PIT-SHOP.COM next Saturday. In preparation for the race, Stremme tested the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge last week at Michigan International Speedway, a similar track to California
"The test session at Michigan went well and hopefully that will get us back on the right track," said Stremme. "If we keep bringing fast race cars to the racetrack then a top finish is bound to come."
The race will be televised live, May 1st, at 4:00 p.m. eastern time on FOX and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
