SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY SURRENDERS TO STANLEY DRIVER TIM FEDEWA

SOUTH BOSTON, Va.-Tim Fedewa, driver of the No. 36 Stanley Racing Machine, will take on the .4-mile oval known as South Boston Speedway again on June 12, 1999. In 1998 South Boston Speedway became the site of Fedewa's third career win in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division.

Fedewa took the racetrack by storm and was strong from the start of qualifying until the checkered flag flew. Fedewa qualified in the fourth position and took the lead for the final time on lap 245.

"It is great to win a race at a bull ring like South Boston
Speedway," Fedewa said. "You work so hard in a race like that, and anything
can go wrong in the blink of an eye. It's like you don't even blink, you
just drive. The intensity of it is awesome."

Fedewa and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. were both running very well and were the only two leaders in the race.

"Dale (Earnhardt, Jr.) and I were running neck and neck," Fedewa said. "He was faster with an open track and I was able to work the traffic better with my car. I was coming on strong and my car just kept getting better and better. I think Junior maybe just got a little impatient with lapped traffic."

The final decision of the race came down to the final 10 laps.

"We had a restart on lap 290," Fedewa said. "Randy (LaJoie) and I were teammates at the time and were running right together. I had a great car, but let me tell you he raced me hard.

"We were teammates and great friends, but when it comes down to owning a victory lap, everybody is fair game on the race track, especially at a bull ring like South Boston."

Race day at South Boston is a grueling day of practice, qualifying and racing all in one day, but Tim Fedewa and the Stanley Racing team are set to conquer the Virginia track with a strong finish.
