"Smith Looking To Rebound at The Rock"

Rockingham, NC (February 17, 2004) -- Regan Smith and the Mac Hill Motorsports team are looking forward to this weekend's Busch Series Goody's Headache Powder 200 at the North Carolina Speedway. After an unexpected slow qualifying lap at Daytona left the team packing up early, Smith is ready to take to a track where speed is in the driver's hands.

"I don't know. We were a second slower then what we tested down there. Short of blaming it on one simple thing, it's one of those things we have to put behind us," Smith said of the Daytona DNQ.

Last season Smith made a single start on the abrasive Rockingham track where tire wear generally comes into play. Since it was his first time on the track, he laid low and used the run as a learning opportunity. This time around, he knows the surface and plans on attacking it with one plan in mind, to win.

Regan Smith on racing at Rockingham:

"Last year it was my second start in a Busch car on a mile track with high banking. I was pretty inexperienced. It was my first race with that team (Bost Motorsports) because I hadn't been approved for Daytona. I had a few problems during the race but I liked the track. I won't do some of the stupid stuff this time around that I did last year. With the restrictor plate out of the way we should we better at getting our car equal to everyone else. It will be good."

Rockingham stats:

Smith has one start (February 2003) at the North Carolina Speedway. He qualified 29th and finished 31st driving for Bost Motorsports.

Random Notes:

-Smith also has stock experience in the Craftsman Truck Series and the USAR ProCup Series. He holds the USAR record for the most poles in a row with four in 2001.

-Smith and the Mac Hill Motorsports team are using Hutter Engines this season.
