NASCAR Busch Series driver predicts side-by-side racing for "The Kroger 300 Presented by Oreo" on June 15.
SPARTA, KY. - NASCAR Busch Series driver Scott Riggs put Goodyear Eagle tire compounds to the test on Kentucky Speedway's newly-paved 1.5-mile tri-oval during a one-day test.
Riggs drove his No. 10 Nesquik Ford to wins in two of the last three series events and enters the week third in the points standings. In addition to providing feedback on tire performance, Riggs prepared the Nesquik Ford for it's appearance at Kentucky Speedway for the June 15 "Kroger 300 Presented by Oreo."
"Kentucky Speedway is a unique track, it's a drivers track," he said. "Turn 3 is the character point of the track. It's tight getting in the corner, but it opens up tremendously off of Turn 4 into the front straightaway. You really carry a lot of speed off Turn 4 and back into Turn 1. I think the track will provide a lot of side-by-side racing. It will be fun for the drivers who have a good car."
Riggs walked familiar ground during his visit as he won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series "Kroger 225" at Kentucky Speedway in 2001. Riggs was impressed with the new surface. "It's silky smooth. When the race comes, the groove will be wider and wider," Riggs commented. "You'll have cars on the bottom, in the middle and up high. We won't have to worry about anybody getting single file to avoid any certain area on the race track, so I think it will be a good race all around."
Kentucky Speedway officially opens its 2002 season on Friday, May10, at 8:00 p.m., with the "Auto Body Panels Short Track Special." The evening will feature USAC National Midget Car Series, ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series and Baby Grand Series racing on the speedway's paved quarter-mile track.
