Harvick Finishes 12th in TWIZZLERS Twizted Chevy
RICHMOND, Va. (May 16) -- REESE'S Racing driver Kevin Harvick finished 12th in the TWIZZLERS Twizted car at Richmond International Raceway.
"Happy" Harvick started his eighth Busch Series race of the season in the 18th spot. With the drop of the green flag, Harvick began his run toward the front. On lap 51 of 253, Harvick worked his way into the top-10.
On lap 57 the fourth caution flag flew over Richmond International Raceway. Harvick and crew chief Rick Viers decided to do the opposite of the leader and bring the No. 21 Chevrolet down pit road for the their first round of pit stops. The reason for this off sequence pit stop strategy was to stay out when the leaders pitted to gain valuable track position. However, Viers could not afford to let Harvick stay on the track during the subsequent pit stops because the car was not handling properly and it needed adjustment.
After a few rounds of pit stops with the leaders, Harvick found himself outside the top-20. The 2001 Busch Series Rookie of the Year worked his way back into the top-15, and with a late caution on lap 246, he found himself in the 12th spot.
"Our car just never came around," Harvick said. "Our team worked really hard all night to find the right combination, but we just never hit the nail on the head. Hopefully, we will take all these notes home and come back to Richmond in the fall and dominate."
Carl Edwards won the race, his second-career victory in the Busch Series. Elliott Sadler finished second, Johnny Sauter finished third and Kasey Kahne finished fourth. Clint Bowyer finished ninth and is still second in the drivers' standings.
Harvick has earned six top-five finishes this season, enabling the REESE'S Racing team to stay in second in owners' points, 158 points behind Carl Edwards.
The next Busch Series race is Saturday, May 28, at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. The race begins at 7:10 p.m. EDT on the FX television network and PRN radio network. Kevin Harvick will drive the REESE'S Chevrolet.
