SADLER BRINGS HOME AN 18TH PLACE FINISH AT RICHMOND
RICHMOND, Va. (May 5, 2006) -- Elliott Sadler, driver of the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford struggled with an ill-handling car for the majority of Friday night's Circuit City 250 at Richmond International Raceway, which resulted in an 18th-place finish.
The race was delayed for 63 minutes at the start by rain, and then had delays of 22 and 44 minutes following red flags -- all before 35 laps had been completed.
After qualifying 32nd, Sadler had worked his way up 21st before the first caution for rain would come out on lap 14. "Pretty tight in the middle, I'm really having trouble getting it to turn," was Sadler's comment to the team. The No. 90 would pit during the first caution on lap 15 to help correct the handling of the car, with an air pressure adjustment, four tires and fuel. They would restart the race in 39th.
Persistence by Sadler would help land him in the 22nd position by lap 80. Another car would make contact with Sadler on lap 87, resulting in cosmetic damage. The team would pit twice to repair the damage. Quick pit stops would keep the CitiFinancial Ford on the lead lap. Over the remainder of the next 150 laps, the Emporia, Va. native would avoid several wrecks and gain valuable track position to bring home an 18th-place finish.
"We made a lot of changes during the race tonight," said Sadler. "I started off really tight and lost a lot of ground early in the race. The guys did a great job with the pit stops and making adjustments to the CitiFinancial Ford. We were just so tight I couldn't run up front with the leaders."
Kevin Harvick scored his third NASCAR Busch Series victory of the 2006 season. Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Ryan Newman complete the top-five.
NASCAR Busch Series action resumes Friday, May 12 at Darlington International Raceway. Elliott Sadler will be back behind the wheel of the No. 90 CitiFinancial Ford for the Diamond Hill Plywood 200. Qualifying gets underway on Friday at 5:05 pm and the race gets the green-flag at 8:30 pm ET.
