NASCAR Busch Series gets change

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 6, 1998) NASCAR officials announced Friday a decrease in the size of the restrictor plates that will be used in the NAPA Auto Parts 300 NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division race on Feb. 14 -- as part of Speedweeks 1998 at Daytona International Speedway.

A technical bulletin was sent to the teams, notifying them that all cars will be required to use a 15/16th-inch diameter restrictor plate, a decrease of 1/16th-inch from the previous restrictor plate size.

Elliott Sadler won the Bud Pole Award for the 1997 NAPA Auto Parts 300 at Daytona with a lap of 47.242 seconds, an average speed of 190.508 mph. Jeff Purvis posted the quickest lap in preseason testing in January at Daytona, better than 193 mph. Both efforts were with the one-inch plate.
