ACDelco Driver Bowyer More Determined Than Ever
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2006) -- ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer heads to Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) this weekend for the Arizona Travel 200 with a sense of determination due in part to his last trip to the 1-mile desert oval. During his last visit to PIR in April, Bowyer was black-flagged for what was deemed as "rough driving" with 10 laps remaining in the Bashas' Supermarkets 200.
In the closing laps of the event, Bowyer was battling with Jason Leffler for third place when Leffler's car broke loose. Leffler braked, and Bowyer slammed into the back of him, causing a chain-reaction pile-up. Bowyer quickly radioed to the crew, "I'm sorry, guys. I didn't mean to do that. He got loose and slammed on his brakes. I had no choice."
Bowyer reiterated his stance in a post-race interview and said, "It was just unfortunate. Jason (Leffler) had a real good run, but he was holding me up. He's a real good friend of mine. I know that was an important race for him, but you can't chop and hit the brakes and check up that many times. I didn't mean to wreck him -- like I said, he's a good friend of mine -- but it happened. I have been racing in this series for a couple of years now, and I have never wrecked anybody on purpose."
Ready to put the past behind them, Bowyer and the ACDelco crew enter this weekend's event focused on earning the team's second win of the season.
Bowyer about Phoenix International Raceway...
"Even though our finishes don't show it, we have run really well at Phoenix. When you go to a track where you have run well in the past, you automatically have more confidence in yourself. We were running fourth in April when I accidentally got in the back of (Jason) Leffler and then we got black-flagged for rough driving. If that hadn't happened, we might have won."
