"Rookie Anxious For 2004 Debut"
April 6, 2004 (Mooresville, North Carolina) -- NASCAR Busch Series driver Shane Wallace heads into Nashville this week with great anticipation. The 20 year old looks to make his 2004 debut as he pilots his #63 SPEED RACER Chevrolet around the Nashville Superspeedway in the running of the Pepsi 300.
"I look forward to finally getting on the track this season," stated Wallace. "We have all worked very hard on putting this program together and now it is time to hit the track. We know that we have a lot more work ahead of us and that we are entering one of the toughest series in racing but we have some solid things in place that will help us accomplish our goals."
Wallace will be making his 2nd career NASCAR Busch Series start -- his only other being last season at Richmond. The Utica, New York native also made 7 starts during the 2003 season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series where he garnered 4 Top 20 finishes in those starts.
Shane and his #63 team tested last week at Nashville in preparation for their debut. Although the team did not turn the lap times that they would have liked, it was valuable track time for the driver and experience for the team.
"The test really helped us in a lot of ways," said Shane. "It helped me in getting valuable track time around this facility. It also gave us a gauge of where we are at with our cars at this point.JWe are bringing back a different car for the race and it should be a little better as well as our race engine being a lot better. Our goal is to make the race on time and run all of the laps and bring home the #63 SPEED RACER Chevrolet safely."
The Nashville race will also mark the debut of the unique sponsorship program with the classic cartoon SPEED RACER. This program will consist of approximately 15 races this season for Wallace and his #63 Chevrolet. This past week the program has also welcome aboard the fan based organization of GearHead Fans (www.gearheadfans.com).
The green flag for the Pepsi 300 is scheduled to wave at 3:00 p.m. EST on Saturday with LIVE television coverage on the FX network.
