NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 2, 1999) Quotes from selected drivers following Bud Pole Qualifying for the BellSouth Mobility 320 at Nashville Speedway USA.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. No. 3 ACDelco Chevrolet "We're pretty happy. We've had some trouble qualifying this year. But this is the first short track and we run pretty well with our short track cars. So we're pretty happy, we're real excited. Hopefully we can run this well in the race when the time comes. This is Sterling's territory, so we're pretty lucky too to run a good lap. Hopefully this is a little bit of a turnaround for us. There were many areas that we need to improve and definitely qualifying is one of them. So this definitely is a confidence-builder as far as our qualifying packages go."
Sterling Marlin No. 14 University of Tennessee Chevrolet "I thought our time might stand up. Kenseth didn't beat it and some of the other cars didn't beat it. We picked up quite a bit. Dale Jr. was right there with us, and he picked up a little more than we did. We've just got to get a race set-up and see what we can do here. I'm really proud to be driving this car. It's a neat deal and hopefully we'll win the race tomorrow."
Kevin Lepage No. 99 Red Man Chevrolet "You know what they say when you have a lap that's really slow feeling but it's really fast? Well, that's the kind of lap I had. I really thought that we were going to be pretty far off the pace. And then the guys told me we had a really good lap. I can't say enough for the Red Man team. We just got it right this weekend."
Matt Kenseth No. 17 DeWalt Tools Chevrolet "Hopefully this will be good enough to get us in the top 10 and give us a good start. To be honest, it didn't feel like a good lap. The car's not driving that good yet. But we'll make some adjustments. I feel like I could have made up some time everywhere. Didn't feel like it was that good."
Phil Parsons No. 10 Alltel Chevrolet "The guys have been working extremely hard on this Alltel Monte Carlo. We were about 30th-fastest in practice. And we knew we had to find something somewhere. So we'll take this and try to keep this car up front tomorrow."
Adam Petty No. 45 Spree Chevrolet "I think if we can make it in the top 10 on the first day, it'll make me pretty happy. It really feels good to come back here to a place where you can really drive in hard and get on it."
Todd Bodine No. 66 Phillips 66 Chevrolet "We had a pretty good lap but we got a little loose all day, but it just got a little looser than I had anticipated. It was a good lap, and will get us up front which is the main thing. It seems like the track is getting a little faster."
Stanton Barrett No. 40 Channellock Chevrolet "I almost lost it in the corner and had to get on the brakes and get off of it. We're doing all we can to get in the field and make a good run. I almost crashed on my first lap."
