AMBROSE HAPPY TO RETURN TO OVALS AT MICHIGAN

Marcos Ambrose is looking forward to his return to Michigan International Speedway in the Carfax 250 in Brooklyn, Michigan this weekend.

Ambrose qualified second in only his seventh NASCAR event in June last year at the Michigan oval in the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The Australian posted a solid 26th place finish on that occasion and this time around Ambrose is looking to be among the front-runners on the final lap of the race rather than the first.

Ambrose has launched back into eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series standings after strong finishes on road courses at the last two events. Now the 30-year-old is keen to continue that form back into oval racing with 11 races remaining in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series season.

And as Ambrose makes his return to ovals after a fortnight of road course racing, it is hard to think of a better venue than Michigan, a fast, 2.0-mile oval that Ambrose rates as one of his favourites.

Having asserted his road course speed on the field, Ambrose is now looking to continue to post consistent finishes in the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion as the Australian chases his fifth top 10 finish for the season.

"I ran at Michigan in the Truck Series and qualified second and had my first experience with drafting and aerodynamics in a truck," said Ambrose.

"It was a real experience for me and we scored a solid finish.

"It's a great race track. I can't wait to get back there. I feel comfortable around the place. I'm looking forward to it.

"The corners are big, long corners. It's fast. It's a fast race track with a lot of drafting down the front straight -- especially in a truck -- and it's got multiple grooves and is a great race track. It's one of the best ovals that I've been to.

"You don't have to sit behind a guy and wait for him to make a mistake; you can take another line and buzz by him, if you've got the speed and the handling on the car.

"So, it's a great race track and a really fun place to race. I haven't been there in a Busch car, so I don't quite know what to expect on that deal, but we expect three or four-wide racing most laps."
