Sherrills Ford, NC (March 21, 2001) - The next stop on the Aaron's "Dream Machine" NASCAR Busch Series schedule is this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. The confidence at Michael Waltrip Racing is soaring as the team is optimistic for their chances in the Cheez-It 250 to better the Aaron's "Dream Machine's" season best third place finish.
Last spring in the Busch Series race at Bristol, Waltrip started 22nd and finished 32nd. Waltrip was in the 11th position when he was hit by another competitor, which forced the right front fender to rub the tire. Waltrip pitted and repairs were made, but shortly after returning to the track he was involved in a multi-car accident on the front stretch. In the fall Busch race at Bristol, Waltrip started 8th and finished 4th.
Waltrip is no stranger to Bristol Motor Speedway and is a former Busch winner at Bristol in 1993. He knows what it takes to be successful on the .533 mile track.
Waltrip says the key to winning at Bristol is surviving. The fast racing on the 36-degree banking lends itself to an increased chance of collision and a high attrition rate.
Waltrip said, "Racing at Bristol is like a major traffic jam. "This is a very small, very fast, and very crowded racetrack. When you put 43 cars on Bristol, there is not a lot of room for drivers to do a whole lot of anything. Most drivers tend to do more than they should which leads to a lot of wrecks. My job will be avoiding the accidents. If we can stay out of trouble and on the lead lap the Aaron's "Dream Machine" will come out of Bristol with another top 3 finish."
Bud Pole Qualifying for the Cheez-It 250 will take place on Friday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. (EST). The event starts at 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, March 24th and will be televised live on FX. PRN Radio will air live at 12:30 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, March 24th.
