BUSCH: Mexico City: Adrian Fernandez qualifying notes

Lowe's driver Adrian Fernandez will start Sunday's Busch Series race in Mexico City in 17th place.

"That isn't what we were hoping for," said Fernandez after Saturday's qualifying run that saw him post two laps during the allotted six minutes. "The car did not have the grip needed for a qualifying run, but we think this will be the right setup for the race."

All of the Busch Series cars were impounded after qualifying meaning they will race the setups used during qualifying.

"We have come from farther back in the field than this so we have no worries," Fernandez said. In 2005 Fernandez started last and led four laps before finishing 10th.

Scott Pruett won the pole. Carlos Contreras, Juan Montoya, Jorge Goeters and Denny Hamlin comprise the remaining top-five qualifiers.

Fernandez said racing at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will be a special feeling tomorrow.

"This is the track where I made my first laps as a racer. I have won many races here but if we could win tomorrow, that would be something very special to me."
