CONCORD, NC -- As luck would have it the October NASCAR Busch Series race at Lowe's Motor Speedway always falls near Mike McLaughlin's October 6th birthday. Two years ago, McLaughlin received one of his favorite birthday presents of all time, a victory in the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300. Just last year, McLaughlin nearly made it two awesome presents in a row, before running out of fuel in turn two of the final lap of the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300. McLaughlin managed to coast to a 3rd place finish.

Entering this weekend's race, the Waterloo, NY native is hungry for another win.

"Winning here at home in 1998 was one of the most awesome feelings I have ever experienced. After the hard luck we have had this year, I know how great another win would feel," McLaughlin said. "I have always enjoyed racing on the mile and a half, high banked tracks and feel like we will have a chance on Saturday to win."

McLaughlin has a vivid memory of last year's near win.

"For a minute after the race, I was real dejected and down about not winning the race," McLaughlin said. "Then the irony of it all hit me, we had come within half a lap of winning one of the biggest races of the year, what a feeling that would have been."

The key to McLaughlin's last two October races has been fuel mileage. McLaughlin expects this year to be no different than before in that area.

"It never seems to fail, the cautions always fall the right way to turn the race into a fuel mileage game and we have played our cards accordingly the last two years," McLaughlin said. "It will be important once again to conserve on gas and make sure we get the tank completely full on each stop.

If McLaughlin and the Goulds Pumps Racing Team can play their cards right once again, its going to be another fun birthday party at The McLaughlin home. The birthday party is already planned, now all McLaughlin needs is a trophy to spice up the party.
